What to Do After Your Consultation (Zoom or In‑Person) image

The most important consultation aftercare rule is simple: get the plan in writing and stick to it. In my 30-minute Consultation (Zoom or In-Person) here in New York, we talk through your goals, your hair history, and what you actually want to see when you leave the chair. Right after we meet, I want you to save the notes, photos, or inspiration you shared so nothing gets lost in the shuffle of real life.

I work with a lot of busy schedules in East Harlem, and a clear follow-up plan is what keeps your next appointment smooth, on time, and on target.

In the first 24–48 hours: lock in your plan (and your calendar)

Quick win: Save your consultation notes in one place and screenshot your top 2–3 inspiration photos. When you come in for color, a cut, a silk press, or an install, I can match the plan to the pictures fast.

In the first day or two after your consultation, your job is to make decisions while everything is fresh. If I recommended a service sequence, for example a corrective cut first, then color later, write that down exactly as we discussed it. If you shared hair photos or I looked at inspiration with you, keep those images handy.

This is also the window to secure your next appointment. NYC calendars fill up quickly, and weather or transit delays can mess with a week if you wait too long. I’m in East Harlem (El Barrio / Spanish Harlem), and I’m easy to reach by subway and Metro-North. That makes quick follow-ups realistic, even if you commute from Upper Manhattan or the Bronx.

  • Confirm your service goals: length, shape, color depth, tone, and what you do and don’t want.
  • Check your timing: if you have an event on 125th Street or a packed week, pick an appointment that leaves buffer for NYC transit.
  • If a deposit is required to hold your slot: take care of it right away so your time stays protected.

And if something changes, tell me within 48–72 hours. New color in your hair history, a scheduling conflict, or a sudden scalp sensitivity can change the plan.

The first week after consult: prep your hair like you mean it

A consultation is planning time, but the week after it matters. A lot of the best results I see come from people who keep things steady instead of switching products or doing something new at the last minute.

If we planned color or chemical work: avoid last-minute experiments. Don’t add a new at-home dye, toner, or strong clarifying routine unless I tell you to.

If we planned an install (weaves, sew-ins, micro-links): show up with clean, fully dried hair unless I gave you a different plan. Wet roots slow everything down and can affect the finish.

If we planned a cut or short style: bring 2–3 photos that show the shape from multiple angles, not just one front view.

If you’re coming in from the Upper East Side, Central Harlem, Morningside Heights, or the Bronx, build in a little transit buffer so we can start on time. I keep my schedule tight for a reason. People notice when you’re in and out on time.

Zoom consultation follow-up: the photos that keep us on the same page

If we met on Zoom, your follow-up is mostly about visuals. Cameras can lie, lighting can shift tone, and a single selfie rarely shows density or shape. Good photos save time and keep the plan accurate.

Send these 5 shots (no filters)

  • Front, left side, right side, and back
  • One photo in natural daylight near a window
  • One close-up of your scalp/hairline if we’re discussing sensitivity, shedding, or breakage
  • Your best 1–2 inspiration photos (the finish you want)
  • A photo of your current products if we talked about routine issues

Re-send updated photos a day or two before your service, especially if you made changes. Hair grows, color fades, and your starting point matters.

Products and habits that protect your result before you ever sit back in the chair

I don’t push random products. I care about what actually supports the plan we made. Until your service date, keep your routine steady and gentle.

Stick with gentle cleansing: if your scalp runs dry or irritated, avoid harsh clarifiers right before a color appointment.

Protect your ends: a lightweight moisturizer or conditioner helps reduce snapping, especially if we’re growing length or correcting damage.

Pause the extremes: skip heavy heat, tight styles, and aggressive brushing if you’re already seeing breakage.

If we discussed avoiding certain products, meds, or skincare because of sensitivity, follow that timing exactly. If you’re unsure, ask me before you change anything.

When to reach out after your consultation (and what I can fix fast)

I want you to feel taken care of after we talk. Reach out if you hit a real change that affects the plan or your safety.

  • Scalp red flags: sudden pain, burning, swelling, or a reaction after a patch test or product trial.
  • Hair history updates: you colored, relaxed, bleached, or did a strong keratin/straightening service after our consultation.
  • Schedule shifts: you need to adjust your appointment because of work, family, or NYC transit issues.
  • Zoom to in-person changes: your new photos look different than what we discussed.

"So glad i found julissa she listened to what i wanted and executed it to the t! Im so happy with my hair will definitely be coming back!"

If you’re ready to move from plan to action, reply to your last message thread with your preferred dates and times. Early-evening and weekend slots tend to go quickly around East Harlem events near 125th Street, so I always suggest confirming your appointment sooner instead of later.

I’m here to make sure your next visit is smooth, and that you leave looking like you, just sharper.

Quick checklist to save in your phone (Consultation follow-up)

  • For Zoom: send clear front, side, and back photos in daylight
  • Keep your routine steady and avoid last-minute DIY color
